For filmmakers entering the Quantum Shorts film festival, the hard work is over. They have either met our 5 December deadline in this universe, or they have missed it. We have received some 232 quantum-inspired films from 58 different countries.
Our shortlisting panel now takes over the tough task of whittling down the submissions to a shortlist of up to ten finalists. The panelists will review the films and judge them based on two criteria: the film’s link to quantum physics, and the conceptual and technical execution of storytelling. The results of the panel’s deliberations will be announced in February next year.
We benefit from the expertise of both returning and new members on our shortlisting panel. This year, we welcome these new explorers of quantum creativity:
- Abbie Bray from the UK National Quantum Technologies Programme, who is an associate lecturer and theoretical physicist researching attosecond science
- Mariagrazia Iuliano and Siddharth Singh from QuTech, who are experimental physicists working on the development of a quantum internet and making superconducting qubits respectively
- Tim Hirsch, who is researching phononic computing at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems
- Exhibition Producer Dimitris Kontopoulos from the ArtScience Museum in Singapore who introduces cutting-edge scientific research and the latest forms of artistic expression to the general public

Our thanks goes to all the filmmakers who submitted their films. We’ll be back with more exciting news next year. While waiting, how about watching some quantum films over the holidays? Take a look at our film archives for more.
Happy holidays!
