The closing ceremony of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ) will be held on 10 and 11 February in Accra, Ghana. We were proud to be a part of IYQ as an IYQ Global Event.
Quantum Shorts: Encore was one of 24 Global Events, selected for their global reach and impact, held in 2025 during IYQ to celebrate the centenary of the birth of modern quantum mechanics. Numerous other events have been held worldwide.
Quantum Shorts: Encore presents winning films from all editions of the Quantum Shorts film festival. Working with international partners, the films were screened in Singapore, Canada, Brazil, New Zealand, India and the United Kingdom.
Filmmaker Chetan Kotabage’s film was one of the films included in the screenings. He said, “It is wonderful to know that the screenings took place in six countries worldwide. The nature at atomic scale can also connect people from different cultures and backgrounds!”
He went one step further. Working with KLS Gogte Institute of Technology where he is based, he organised screenings for his local community. “Quantum Shorts: Encore covers a wide range of topics of quantum science while trying to connect with a person that has no exposure to these areas,” he said. “The screenings also delivered interesting narratives on quantum science by filmmakers from different parts of the world.”
Worldwide, over 2400 participants attended the Quantum Shorts: Encore screenings, which also featured talks and panel discussions.
With the end of Encore, Quantum Shorts has also reached its conclusion. Our IYQ screenings in 2025 and the second Quantum Shorts fiction anthology published in 2024 were our finale, ending 12 years of contests for quantum-inspired creativity. We thank everyone who shared their work and everyone who joined us to enjoy it.
The Centre for Quantum Technologies in Singapore, organiser of Quantum Shorts, is committed to continuing to explore the intersection of art and science.
